The Canadian smartphone maker, Blackberry has introduced a new handset with a large, square touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard that is similar to the classic BlackBerry Keyboard. dubbed the BlackBerry Passport, the build quality of the smartphone feels robust and premium and has stainless steel edges.
The QWERTY keyboard has been re-engineered and has touch sensitive which allows users to move the cursor or find suggested words similar to the touch enabled BB 10 smartphones. The BlackBerry Passport comes pre-installed with the Amazon App Store with access to 2,00,000 top Android apps, now you can run your favorite Android apps on Blackberry smartphones.
The BlackBerry Passport runs BlackBerry OS 10.3 with the new BlackBerry assistant, BlackBerry’s own personal assistant. The smartphone packs a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974-AA) processor along with the 450MHz Adreno 330 GPU and fueled by a 3450mAh integrated non-removable battery that can last almost 2 days.
The handset sports a 4.5-inch diagonal display with a resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels at 453 PPI and the 10-point multi-touch display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. There is 3GB LPDDR3 800MHz RAM and 32GB of built-in storage that can be expanded by up-to 64GB with a MicroSD card.
The BlackBerry Passport features a 13-megapixel Auto-Focus rear camera with BSI Sensor, 5-element f2.0 lens, 6DOF OIS, 5x digital zoom and LED Flash and also includes a 2-megapixel Fixed-Focus front camera with video & image stabilization. The rear camera of the smartphone is capable of recording video in 1080p full HD @ 60fps, while the front-facing camera can record 720p HD video.
In terms of connectivity, the BlackBerry Passport is a 4G LTE-capable handset and support WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz), GPS + GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, SlimPort and NFC connectivity. It also comes with 3.5mm audio jack and FM Radio connectivity. The BlackBerry Passport measures in at 128 x 90.3 x 9.3mm and weighs just 196 grams.
The BlackBerry Passport opened for pre-orders yesterday through BlackBerry exclusive stores and Amazon.in, with device shipping starting in mid-October. It comes in Black and White colors and costs Rs. 49,990. Samsung Galaxy Alpha launched in India – Samsung’s fist smartphone with an unique metallic frame and 6.7 millimeters slim body, the Galaxy Alpha has been launched in the country at a price of Rs. 39,990. The Galaxy Alpha is a 4G-capable smartphone with support for 4G LTE-A Cat.6. The company also announced that it has partnered with Airtel to offer 5GB of 4G data for 2-months. It comes in five color options – Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Scuba Blue and Sleek Silver colors. The smartphone will be available to buy in the first week of October.
