Google launches Android One smartphones, starts at Rs 6299

Google Inc. has finally launched its Android One project smartphones in India – the Spice Android One UNO Mi-498, Karbonn Sparkle V and the Micromax Canvas A1 – are priced at 6,299, Rs. 6,399 and Rs. 6,499, respectively. All the Android One-powered phones will cost the buyer less than Rs. 6,500. All the smartphone are now available to buy exclusively through three different e-commerce sites.

All these Android One-powered smartphones come with a 4.5-inch 854 X 480 pixels display and the new “material design”, are powered by the 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor coupled with Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM and run Android v4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box. These devices will also get Android L updates. All the Android One smartphones have 4GB of built in memory with microSD card slot for storage up-to 32GB, and the phones are fueled by by a 1700 mAh battery with improved battery life.

These devices come with dual-SIM connectivity and support 3G HSPA+, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio, WiFi and 3.5mm audio jack connectivity. All three phones, the Spice Android One UNO Mi-498, Karbonn Sparkle V and the Micromax Canvas A1 have 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calling and selfies. The phones come pre-loaded with smarter notifications, enhanced security features and Google apps like Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Translate and YouTube.

Google also said, the YouTube app will get offline videos in the country to store on the device and watch them later without internet connectivity. All the Android One phones come with the free Airtel data and 200MB/month app downloads from Google Play for 6-months. With an Airtel SIM, the Android One users will also get free OTA (over the air) updates.

Google Inc. partners with Acer, Alcatel Onetouch, Asus, HTC, Intex, Karbonn, Lava, Lenovo, Micromax, Panasonic, Xolo and chipmaker Qualcomm, for the Android One initiative. The Android One-powered budget smartphone will also be available in Indonesia, the Philippines and the South Asian countries by the end of the year. (GoogleBlog/Android)
