Jolla smartphones with Sailfish OS coming to India

Jolla smartphones coming to India :

As earlier announced by Jolla ltd, Jolla smartphones are coming to India on 23rd of September. India is a potential market for smartphones and Jolla has decided to build their consumer base in India by using this opportunity. Jolla posted a photo on its official Facebook page stating that it is going to launch Jolla smartphones in India.

Jolla will sell their handsets online exclusively through online retailer Snapdeal.com, Jolla has collaboration with Snapdeal.com for online marketing. As per the recent competition, the price is expected to be under ₹20,000.

Sailfish OS :

Jolla is the one of the newest company in the smartphone industry. Unlike other newcomers, Jolla has started with its own operating system known as Sailfish OS. The Sailfish OS is the continuation of MeeGo project abandoned by Nokia. The Jolla ltd. was founded by ex Nokia employees to save the MeeGo platform. Sailfish OS is based on the open source Linux OS and mer software distribution.

Each version of Sailfish OS is named on Finnish lakes. The current version v1.0.8.19 is named as Tahkalampi. Further more, Jolla CEO Jussi Hurmola says “Sailfish OS Will Run Android Apps. So, those who are planning to buy Jolla smartphone does not need to worry about apps.

Jolla’s current flagship is known as Jolla running on sailfish OS v1.0.0 an is upgradable to v1.0.5. Jolla smartphones are swipe and gestures based, unlike other phones it doesn’t have back, home or option buttons. They have unique design, the phone is made of two halves: the “front half” and “other half”, other half is back cover and can be changed.

Jolla phone has the following specifications:

  • Display: 540X960, 4.7″ IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass 2,
  • Body Dimensions: 131 X 68 X 9.9 mm and weighs 141 gm,
  • Memory: 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, expandable using microSD card up to 64GB,
  • Camera: 8MP primary camera, 1080p at 30 fps video recording, 2MP secondary camera,
  • CPU and GPU: Snapdragon 400 chip-set, Dual-core 1.4 GHz Krait 300 processor, Adreno 305 GPU,
  • Battery: 2100 mAh up-to 10 Hrs on 3G network.
